Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a special, altered state of consciousness. After all, he is fraught with loss of control, and the person himself can become just a toy in the hands of a stranger.

However, this state should not be confused with a hypnotic state. But it is these scenes that give rise to myths about hypnosis, which prevent people from correctly assessing this phenomenon and denying the benefits of hypnotherapy.

During hypnosis, people lose consciousness and then do not remember anything. In fact, most of the participants in such experiments remember everything that happened to them. After all, almost everything that a specialist wants to achieve with hypnosis is carried out in a state of shallow trance, in which people remember everything. And in hypnosis, the patient is not controlled by the hypnotherapist, this person just helps. If a person forgets everything that happened to him, the memories usually come back later. After all, memory is also in a hypnotized person in an unconscious state. And the essence of the experiment is usually in the fact that the subject remembers everything that happened to him.

Hypnotherapists are especially powerful. The statements of the famous specialist of this kind Friedrich Anton Mesmer (1734-1815) are known. He believed that, together with his colleagues, he possesses a certain hidden power that allows him to put people into a state of trance. But already at the beginning of the 19th century, it became clear that there was no external force, its source was the person himself. The hypnotherapist can use any methods to induce trance states, but the subject is responsible for the hypnotic state. Numerous studies have shown that a hypnotherapist has practically no effect on the possibility of immersion in a special state and its depth. This is why hypnotherapy, like hypnosis, is easy to learn. Professional specialists, of course, use some of their professional methods that allow people to help in achieving the desired state. But these are working skills, because there are the best representatives among the sellers and cooks.

After being put into a trance, the person is controlled by a hypnotherapist. This idea, according to which a person is controlled by someone from the outside, is part of the show or spectacular films. In fact, a dishonest specialist can deceive someone in an unconscious state by stepping over their beliefs, just like other scammers who are not even familiar with hypnosis. Usually, however, the desire to convey something clearly in a clear voice or to give a directed task will result in the subject either ignoring the order or becoming extremely attentive to the words of an outsider.

Hypnosis is an unusual and strange condition. In fact, there is nothing unusual about hypnosis. We enter such states on our own, we simply do not realize it or do not know how to use such a situation. This can be watching TV, taking the subway or driving. In this case, we are between sleep and wakefulness, our state is neither active nor sleepy. It is like hypnosis. Some people believe that they were not hypnotized, because they did not experience new sensations. But the altered state does not always involve unusual memories.

Hypnosis awakens supernormal abilities in a person. In fact, such a statement cannot be considered entirely a myth. Indeed, one of the goals of hypnosis is precisely the implementation of some things that a person is simply incapable of in an ordinary state. But this is always something that we could have done in the normal state, just not so easily and effectively. Hypnosis allows you to activate those parts of the brain that under normal conditions are little involved, used ineffectively or are completely disabled. This allows you to take a different look at ordinary things, which from the outside may seem like a demonstration of some kind of superpowers. They seem to be something unusual, which cannot be known by our usual feelings. In fact, this is normal sensory perception, which worked in conditions of high concentration.

Hypnosis is an occult science, so believers are better off staying away from it. This myth is easy to explain. The hypnotherapist himself allegedly gains control over the person and his free will. But it was given to him by God, and it seems that some special, otherworldly secret knowledge and powers are used for this. But as already mentioned, it has been proven that the hypnotic state is natural. Any person has such an innate trait that is in no way connected with mysterious knowledge or evil forces. This state does not suppress our free will in any way and does not place people under someone else's control. Most religions are generally quite relaxed about hypnosis when it is used in ethical matters. For example, the Roman Catholic Church has officially expressed its position since 1847. Of course, this church is not an authority for all of us, especially for those who are initially skeptical of hypnosis. It is worth mentioning that trances have long been used by shamans and other traditional healers, so hypnosis can be considered truly pagan. But in fact, in many methods of treatment and religious trends, trance states are also used, and they are caused in the same way. So any form of human behavior or methods of treatment can be considered pagan one way or another. Hypnotherapy is a natural technique for humans, which does not carry any hidden anti-religiousness.

No one can prove the effectiveness of hypnosis and its therapeutic effects. Some skeptics refer to hypnosis as just an alternative treatment, but this claim is unsubstantiated. But the results of brain scans speak in favor of hypnosis. They clearly showed that there is an improvement in brain activity after hypnotherapy.

A person can remain in a state of hypnosis forever. The average person cannot be in a state of hypnosis any more than he is in a dream or a state of wakefulness. After all, this is the most natural state, which is naturally replaced by another after a certain time. In practice, most professionals artificially interrupt their clients' trances. But if this did not happen, then the person would eventually either go into a normal sleep, or return to normal activity.

Many people do not lend themselves to hypnosis at all. It must be understood that hypnosis is a natural state of a person, his innate feature. Therefore, anyone who can understand simple instructions and concentrate can be hypnotized. It is also important that the person trusts his hypnotherapist, and he uses the technique appropriate for this particular case. In practice, it turns out that not all specialists can hypnotize their patients; some fall into a trance more easily than others. This gave rise to this myth, but in this case, the fault lies with the hypnotherapists themselves. It should also be remembered that hypnotizability is one of the characteristics of a person. It turns out that some of us are better at getting into a trance state than others. But it can be used in scientific research, not in treatment. After all, most hypnotherapy does not depend in any way on the depth of the patient's trance. An exception to this is pain control. It is then really necessary to achieve a deeper trance for the technique to be effective. This reason is quite important, it explains the advantage of chemical anesthesia for the patient in surgery over hypnotic. The point is not at all that the operation under anesthesia is difficult and impracticable from a practical point of view. It's just that not everyone can lead the patient into the required deep hypnotic state.

It's easier to hypnotize people with a weak will. This myth was adopted at a time when hypnosis was considered to be something authoritarian, with a commanding flavor. Then, in this state, they gave clear orders to the person. However, it turned out that many people simply did not succumb to such methods. Then a modern, non-directive technique appeared using Ericksonian hypnosis. It is now believed that the power of desire has nothing to do with how easily and effectively a person can be hypnotized. So an intelligent patient who has developed imaginative thinking and knows how to concentrate well will be able to enter a hypnotic state more easily. And an open mind about hypnosis and this kind of therapy has nothing to do with weak will.
