A site (from the English site - a place, synonyms: a website, a resource) is a place on the Internet, which is determined by its address (URL), has its owner and consists of web pages that are perceived as a whole. There is no strict definition of a site - for example, some sections of large sites may well be perceived and even identified by their owners as separate sites. The start page that appears when accessing the domain name of the site is often called the "face" of the site.
URL (from the English Universal Resource Locator, usually pronounced "url") is the address of a page on the Internet. The URL consists of the domain name, the path to the page on the site, and the file name of the page. Usually, when they say "site address", they mean its domain name, when accessing which the start page of the site is loaded.
Domain (from the English domain - area, territory). According to international agreement, each country is allocated some code designation 2-3 letters long, which is called the first-level domain or domain of this country. So, for example, if the site address ends in .ru, it means that the site is in the domain of Russia, .fr - France, .jp - Japan. In addition, there are several first-level domains related not to geography, but to the focus of the site - for example, .com for commercial, .org for non-commercial, .edu for educational organizations. A first-level domain is also called a "zone".
Second-level domains are leased to businesses and individuals, usually with annual payment. In each zone, second-level domains are issued by a specially authorized organization. A second-level domain, like any other, must consist of numbers and letters of the Latin alphabet, for example, yahoo.com, lib.ru, b2b.ru. Choosing a second-level domain for their site, as a rule, they try to find a word that will correspond to the name of the organization, product or line of activity, as well as easy to read and remember, for example, gazeta.ru, generalmotors.ru, narod.ru.
The owner of a second-level domain has the ability to create an unlimited number of third-level and further addresses. So, for example, the owner of the pupkin.ru domain can create a domain vasya.pupkin.ru for himself, and sharik.pupkin.ru for his dog.
Sites (unlike other media) will make your advertising available in all countries of the world at any time of the day or night. Yes, it will be available, but for the audience (which, for example, the media already has) you will still have to compete by conducting as extensive an advertising campaign for your newly-made website as possible.
For a modest fee, you can build and maintain a website. It is much more expensive to support advertising by other means, and more efforts will have to be spent. This is not entirely true - it all depends on the specifics of the site. For some, it is enough to publish photos once a month (or even less often), while others have to pay daily for several employees (and sometimes several dozen employees) who prepare information for publication - write articles, conduct interviews, create videos, prepare and conduct advertising campaigns, and etc. So you still have to spend both effort and money if you want to make your site work efficiently.
Updates posted on the site instantly reach potential customers. Yes, information does appear on the Internet immediately, but will the client have it? It should be noted that the client must, firstly, find out about your site, and secondly, go to it at the same time with you to read the update. Unfortunately, this is not the case - most often people visit sites by accident, or their visits to the site are separated by a rather long time interval (the exception is specialized sites that provide new and constantly requested information, where customers visit at regular intervals and subscribe to the newsletter).
It is from the site that the client can receive the greatest amount of information, therefore, his interest in our project will increase. Indeed, the site is quite capacious (unlike, for example, a big board or an advertising clip), but this is not a guarantee that the client will read all those 3 (5, 10, 20) pages of information that you bother to put on the Internet, yes also take an interest in it.
The Internet provides a lot of opportunities for feedback, and the more you use them, the more profit our project will bring. This is not entirely true (especially if we are not talking about a large enterprise that can afford to maintain an extensive staff of employees). If the number of people contacting you every day is not particularly large, one employee is quite enough to resolve almost all pressing issues to process the feedback form and e-mail.
The most profitable sites in multiple languages. Perhaps, however, you should take into account that, first, the server on which your sites are located must be configured accordingly. Secondly, to fill the foreign language version, you either need to be a connoisseur of the language chosen for the aforementioned version, or pay for the services of an experienced translator (and such services are not cheap in our time).
The number of Internet users is growing, therefore, the number of potential visitors to our site, consumers of our services (products) is growing, which means that the profit from the site should grow accordingly. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true. After all, not only the number of users is growing, but also the number of sites, among which it is more and more difficult to find yours. So you will have to spend a lot of money on advertising and website development - otherwise, there can be no question of any profit.
Website promotion should be dealt with by Internet advertising specialists. No, it is not (unless we are talking about the website of an Internet company). Website promotion is carried out by the company's marketing specialists, who, if necessary, attract specialists in online advertising. After all, the site is an integral part of the company's business, and accordingly, its promotion is also.
To fill the site, only photos of the product are enough. No, it’s not. Even a photo gallery should be accompanied by textual information (moreover, written by specialists, not Internet users), and the more, the better. Such information should be posted not only on your site, but also on friendly sites, in news reviews, etc.
The most visited sites are the most popular. Unfortunately, high traffic does not guarantee that your project is in demand and your product will be purchased. A large number of hits and hosts (a hit is the number of visits in a certain time, a host is the number of unique visitors in the same time) is achieved quite easily, but the number of sales will grow if your site is easier to find (say, if it gets into top five-ten search engines).
Exchanging links with other sites helps to promote the site. This is not entirely true. It should be remembered that representative resources are very reluctant to place links to sites with similar topics, and Yandex will also credit your link to another site only if a number of rather strict requirements are met (in particular, the topic of the referring resource matches the topic of the one to which the link is made). Therefore, let us clarify: the promotion of a site can be facilitated by a large number of incoming links from sites of a similar subject.
